About

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with many years of experience. Developing a good rapport with clients is of utmost importance and, in addition to offering compassion and support, providing them with a safe place in which to express their authentic feelings is critical. I treat each client as an individual with specific needs. Therefore, my theoretical orientation varies from person to person. For instance, one client presenting with anxiety symptoms may respond well to Acceptance and Commitment interventions, while another client with the same symptoms may have better results with Cognitive Behavioral interventions. I very much enjoy the process of getting to know my clients and, together, discovering the treatment approach that works best for them.

Certifications and Expertise

In my work with individuals, couples, families and groups, one main focus I use is to identify patterns of behavior that may be impairing their relationships as well as their ability to change and grow. Once these patterns are identified, we work together to create new and more effective ways of coping with whatever issues they may be facing. Our goal is to transition out of the old destructive patterns into the new, more constructive perspectives and practices. This is in an effort to improve relationships of all kinds.

I have extensive experience working with younger and older adults with a variety of disorders, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, various types of abuse, bipolar disorders, personality disorders and PTSD to name a few. I am well versed in many evidenced based practices that include CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Treatment), Seeking Safety, DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy – often used with personality disorders), ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy – used with relational issues), motivational interviewing and others. I am certified in CBT which is extremely helpful in dealing with many symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Education and Training

I received my bachelors degree from University of Southern California after which I became a teacher. I later attended Pacific Oaks College and earned a Master’s degree in counseling. I have worked in hospital settings, mental health facilities and have also seen clients in private practice settings. My most recent experience was working in an outpatient mental health facility assisting a variety of clients, many of whom were experiencing a history of multiple types of trauma. I am regularly involved in attending continuing education seminars on a range of topics and techniques.
