About
I am a Licensed Individual, Marriage and Family Therapist with over 11 years of experience in the mental health field. In addition, I am a Bilingual/Bicultural Spanish speaking psychotherapist. I work with adults experiencing difficulties ranging from anxiety and depression to relationship difficulties and acculturation issues.
I approach my work with clients from a culturally attuned perspective and create a space for individuals to speak freely about the issues that trouble them in a safe, supportive and contained environment. Together we explore the challenges and come to a deeper understanding that leads to lasting changes.
I practice from a psychodynamic approach. Through building relationships with clients I seek to better understand them as individuals and their experiences. I believe our earliest experiences in life have a lasting impact on who we are today. I support clients in understanding those early relationships and their continued effects. I help clients to connect to what they think and feel. This supports a deeper understanding of who they are and an increased capacity to tolerate difficult/overwhelming emotions. I also incorporate CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) interventions, where appropriate and relevant, when necessary.
Certifications and Expertise
I received additional training in the area of Maternal Mental Health and have a special interest in working with individuals seeking treatment related to pregnancy related issues, transitions into parenthood, anxiety and depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Transitioning into parenthood can be exciting, overwhelming and challenging for many people. I work with soon to be parents and new parents by providing support during this vulnerable time in one’s life. Together we address fear worries and other challenges that may arise. My additional training in the area of maternal mental health allows me to better support individuals who may struggle during this time period.
Education and Training
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from National Louis University with a major in psychology and human development, and my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University with a specialization in child studies. I have additional training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and perinatal mental health.
