About
My approach to psychotherapy is a collaborative relational process between client and therapist. The therapeutic process involves a profound attunement of the therapist with the client. In my Person-centered approach, I see my client not as a collection of symptoms and problems. I see a complete emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual human being who is facing problems, pain, and/or challenges which they feel they need help to process and resolve. Therapy can effectively activate the client’s resources for healing, growth and change.
Asking for help takes courage. I work to allow my clients to achieve a sense of security, trust and comfort, so even the most difficult issues can be explored and analyzed in an open manner. To facilitate this process, I strive to work in an emphatic, supportive and encouraging way to offer my client positive regard and allow them to proceed at their own pace. My goal is to help you let go of emotional suffering, create healthier communication and more intimacy in your relationships; to overcome what may be holding you back from moving your life in the direction you want it to go. With couples and families, I make sure the presenting problems are clearly defined and mutually agreed upon by all members, and that each person feels they have a voice during our sessions.
Certifications and Expertise
I have extensive experience working with adults of every age and adolescents, especially in the areas of Depression, Grief/Loss, Life Transitions, Acculturation problems such as inter-generational conflict in immigrant families, Relationship Difficulties and Spiritual Issues. I work within a Client-centered framework, and utilize both long term psycho-dynamic models and shorter term Cognitive Behavioral techniques. Since everyone is unique, I tailor my approach to each person to best suit their history, personality and presenting issues. I am also able to provide therapy in Hungarian.
Education and Training
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California and my Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Los Angeles. I have been working as a therapist for nine years. My first Internship was at the Airport Marina Counseling center where we were trained in psycho-dynamic approaches to therapy, and then at the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic where our training was Cognitive Behavioral oriented. My Continuing Education classes have revolved around Couples Therapy, Depression, Grief/Loss, Minority/Cultural Issues and Spiritual Issues.
