About
I work with adults, couples, families, and adolescents. My goal is to create a safe environment in which you can rediscover, connect with, and fulfill your true individual and relational potential. So often pain, trauma, and adversity require us to adapt to survive. We begin masking ourselves and coping in ways that were necessary then but do not help us now. When we remain disconnected from our true selves and rely upon past survival mechanisms, problems arise in the present.
Whether it be anxiety or depression, feeling unfulfilled and disconnected, or engaging in unhealthy behaviors or relationship patterns, I provide the safe and non-judgmental space in which you can access your internal compass, reclaim your true self, chart your own course, and fulfill your full potential. So often life becomes about hanging on and weathering whatever storm comes next. My goal is for you to do more than survive. I want you to thrive.
Certifications and Expertise
I practice from psychodynamic, humanistic, attachment-based, and cognitive-behavioral theoretical orientations utilizing a trauma-informed approach.
I have received specialized training in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). IFS is a powerfully transformative model of psychotherapy, which believes that our inner parts contain valuable and welcome qualities and our core self knows how to heal. EMDR can help to resolve unprocessed trauma, which allows the brain to resume its natural healing function. I integrate both IFS and EMDR into my work with individuals and couples.
In addition, I am trained in the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Through PACT, you can build an understanding of your partner’s (and your own) brain, somatic/physiological reactions, and attachment styles, which can help you diffuse conflict and tension. Gottman Method Couples Therapy draws from four decades of research on all facets of relationships to support and repair troubled relationships and to strengthen happy ones.
Addictive behaviors and substance use are ways of coping with trauma and pain. I am trained in treating co-occurring substance use and mental health issues as well as motivating clients towards changing their addictive (or other unwanted) behaviors using motivational interviewing and evidence-based skills.
Education and Training
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist who has enjoyed working in various mental health settings. I received my M.A. in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University in 2011 and my J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1998. I am level 2 trained in PACT and the Gottman Method and level 2 trained in IFS.
